This two handled cream soup bowl & dish by Theodore Haviland from Limoges, France is done in a breathtaking pattern of pale pink & yellow roses. This set is accented with cascading foliage and gold gilding, and is finished with a beautiful shape.
Each set includes a 2 handled cream soup bowl/cup and a saucer/underplate.
Pattern / Dates ~ early century, c1920.
The Haviland family were amazing innovators in the fine bone china industry, changing the very face of the industry world-wide. The company can trace its roots to its American founder, David Haviland, who exported his first porcelain from Limoges, France in 1842. David's son, Theodore, followed in his father's footsteps in 1890. The family continued to be in management until 1972.
Markings ~ underglaze stamp in red "Theodore Haviland Limoges France Patent Applied For", as please see pictures.
Condition ~ Excellent: pre-owned vintage/antique. Although there is gold loss on the handles commensurate w/use and age, the pattern is relatively untouched and in excellent shape. The set is chip/flake free.
